What to know

Tolls and vignettes

Motorways tolled at frequent barriers; vans over 2.2 m pay category 3, roughly double a car. Athens to Thessaloniki about €35 for a van.

Clean air zones

Athens' daktylios ring restricts by plate on weekdays in winter; foreign vehicles are exempt.

Sleeping in the van

Wild camping is illegal under the 1976 tourism law and the fine was raised in 2023 to €300; in practice it is tolerated out of season and away from organised beaches. Few aires; campsites open April to October.
