What to know
Tolls and vignettes
Vignette for motorways under 3.5 t: 10-day about €12, two-month about €30, digital or sticker. The Brenner, Tauern, Arlberg and Karawanken stretches charge extra (Sondermaut). Over 3.5 t needs a GO-Box, charged by the kilometre.
Clean air zones
Umwelt-Pickerl sticker required for some Tyrol and Styria sections; most vans fit.
Sleeping in the van
Province-by-province: tolerated for a night in Vienna and Lower Austria, banned in Tyrol, Salzburg and the Vorarlberg outside campsites. Fines up to €220.
Kit you must carry
Warning triangle, hi-vis vest, first-aid kit. Winter tyres compulsory in winter conditions from November to mid-April.
